Gil Merrick Birmingham City FC Memorabilia
Gil
Merrick signed as a professional with Birmingham City in 1939 and would remain with the Blues until his retirement in
1960.He also managed the club from 1960 to 1964 where his best achievement at the club came in the 1962-63 season, when he successfully led the Blues to the League Cup
title beating local rivals Aston Villa in the final.
Unfortunately Gil died on February 3,
2010 aged 88, he was considered one of the finest goalkeepers of the 1950s and won 23 caps for England.

the honour of 'The Railway Stand' being renamed 'The Gil Merrick Stand'

was first released in 1954.
As well as the story of Merrick's career, he has also added an instructional section
